GOVT SUMMIT 2015- SMART POLICIES FOR PUBLIC SECTOR INNOVATION

This report details the proceedings of the round table event, titled ‘Smart Policies for Public Sector Innovation’ on the 8th of February, which was organized by the Mohammed in Rashid School of Government as part of the 2015 UAE Government Summit.
This round table session served as a platform for academics from public policy institutions, practitioners from government based entities and members of the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government’s research and teaching faculty to discuss how ‘smart’ policies could be implemented and utilized by public sector organizations.
This discussion was driven by three questions:
- What constitutes ‘smart’ policy?
- What are the skills needed to uccessfully implement these policies?
- What can academic institutions – specifically schools of government – do to support decision makers who implement these policies?
Participants included academics from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (National University of Singapore), Carnegie Mellon University ustralia, NYU Shanghai, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs (Syracuse University in New York) and Columbia University; as well as practitioners from both private and public sector entities such as Microsoft and The Executive Council of the Government of Dubai.
