Megan Jane Mathias
Research Fellow
Megan is an experienced researcher, consultant and public servant. Until recently, she was a Senior Advisor for the New Zealand Government in the United Arab Emirates, focusing on the development of diplomatic and commercial relations between the New Zealand Government and public agencies in the Gulf region. Between 2010 and 2013, Megan co-founded and ran an independent research consultancy, Kafka Brigade UK and Ireland - supporting public sector organizations to radically redesign and innovate services around the citizen. In 2011, this work was recognised by a UK national newspaper, which named Kafka Brigade as ‘an idea that can help save the world’. In 2013-14, while living in Oman, Megan continued as an Associate for the Kafka Brigade, and conducted research projects for the Carnegie Trust UK, Sohar University, and The Australian Centre for Social Innovation.
Megan’s career was established with PA Consulting Group (government services consulting) and Serco (a private provider of public services). Here, she delivered successful client assignments for governments in the UK and USA, before becoming a Director of Serco’s in-house think tank in 2005. In 2006, Megan was approached to join the UK civil service, working on public service reform and innovations in governance for the devolved Welsh Government.
Until her move to the Gulf, Megan also held advisory roles with Wales Public Services 2025 (a think-tank initiative she co-founded), SPICE (a time-banking social enterprise), the Equality and Human Rights Commission in Wales, the Centre for Research in Futures and Innovation at Glamorgan Business School, and the Institute for Welsh Affairs – chairing its Cardiff and Valleys Branch. Megan was pursuing a part-time Phd in public leadership at Warwick Business School until her relocation to the Gulf.
