24 November 2014At the end of 2009, 5% of the world’s population owned smartphones. Four years later, that figure jumped to 22%. Currently, 1.7 billion people are on social networks. Over the next three years, that audience will surpass 2.55 billion. By 2020, 5 billion people will enter the middle class and come online, while 50 billion devices will be connected to the “Internet of Things,” creating a digital network of virtually everything. Cloud computing, a $41 billion business in 2011 expected to grow to a $241 billion business in the same time frame.
  The exponential proliferation of mobile devices, social media, cloud technologies and the staggering amounts of data they generate, have transformed the way we live and work. In fact, 61% of companies report that the majority of their people use smart devices for everything from email to project management to content creation. 
All of these advancements have improved our lives and provided us with greater opportunities for innovation than ever before.

Speakers

Dr. Bassem Younes
Director of Strategic Alliances , Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government  Dr Bassem Younes has a combined American and British educational background in Civil Engineering culminating with a PhD and DIC from the prestigious Imperial College of London awarded in 1990. In the area of research he has presented a number of refereed technical papers in national/international conferences and professional journals. He has also authored a number of well received commissioned reports. He was designated a Distinguished Visiting Professor at University College, Florida Institute of Technology in 2005.


Dr. Hichem Maya
Head of SAP Business Transformation Services  at SAP Europe Middle East and Africa Dr Hichem Maya is the head of SAP Business Transformation Services at SAP Europe Middle East and Africa. He leads a number of smart city projects for SAP and contributed to the development of the SAP smart city app and connected cars initiative. Dr Hichem Maya and his team work with organizations such as governments to define and deploy smart government platforms, Oil and Gas companies to develop digital oil fields and retailers to get a single customer view and improve sales efficiency. Dr Maya acquired an extensive experience in technology driven transformations.


Peter Mittemeyer
Head of Business Innovation & Transformation EMEA at SAP Peter Mittemeyer currently serves as Head of Business Innovation & Transformation EMEA at SAP Business Transformation Services. Peter started his professional career 21 years ago as the first product manager for Bionade, the last real innovation in the beverage industry. Later Peter worked as management consultant in the utilities, music and logistics industry and then took over the responsibility as head of logistics and manufacturing Europe at a global automotive supplier in Germany. Peter joined SAP in 2009 as Managing Principal Discrete Manufacturing and started to build the business innovation practice at SAP Business Innovation and works now with the SAP customer base to create technology driven business model innovations.
