Dr. Yasser Al-Saleh is an Assistant Professor at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG). Before turning thirty, he was awarded a PhD in Science, Technology and Innovation Policy from the University of Manchester (in the United Kingdom). He received his Master’s with Distinction from the University of Leeds and completed his undergraduate studies in Southampton (also in the UK) with First Class Honours.

Yasser has published over thirty peer-reviewed academic papers, participated in more than thirty international conferences, winning several best-paper awards. In 2010, he authored his first book entitled “The Prospects for Sustainable Innovation within Oil-rich GCC” (published by SPRU at the University of Sussex). His second ‘co-edited’ book entitled “Economic Diversification Policies in Natural Resource-Rich Economies” will be published in 2017 by Routledge.

Through collaboration with government/private entities, he has been active in managing, conducting and delivering numerous policy-oriented research/consultancy/training projects on topics related to measuring innovation and competitiveness dynamics, economic diversification strategies, innovation in government, energy and environmental studies, sustainable development, economic reforms, design of policy instruments and business model innovation. His research findings have been published in top-tier journals (such as the Journal of Cleaner Production, Technovation, Futures, R&D Management, Science and Public Policy); working papers series of prominent organisations (including INSEAD, MIT and the Tyndall Centre); various media outlets (such as Aljazeera, Forbes, The Economic Times, NY Times, The Moscow Times, The Atlantic and Project Syndicate, among others).

Yasser currently sits on the editorial boards of several scholarly journals and is often invited to serve as an assessor for professional awards and act as a supervisor/examiner for graduate research projects. Prior to joining the MBRSG, he held senior research posts at INSEAD and the Masdar Institute/MIT. He has also held visiting scholarship fellowships (in the UK) as well as adjunct professorships (in the UAE). These positions have involved developing curricula and teaching the subjects of innovation studies, environmental economics and public policy at PhD level.
